This paper presents a residential gateway (RG) based, service-oriented system infrastructure for smart homes.
The RG is designed to enable the interconnection of various home networks and appliances to Internet, and at the same time serves as a service execution platform.
The Open Service Gateway Initiative (OSGi) and device access protocols such as UPnP have been incorporated in the RG to facilitate the management of home devices and services. Context aware services, SIP service and other OSGi application services have been developed to make the platform unique.
